Background services have increased 30% or more in Vista, despite the introduction of Superfetch to speed up the boot time, Vista needs lots of RAM to take advantage of Superfetch and its’ own features. In this article, I will show you 3 simple ways to speed up boot time.

Method #1 – Add more RAMThis is my favorite way to increase Vista overall performance! You will notice dramatic decrease in boot time when 2 GB RAM or more installed. If you have limited budget, then try the next method.

Method #2 – Use ReadyBoostYou can use your normal memory stick (some called it flash drive) to accelerate the speed. Not all memory stick are Vista compatible, however there are some tricks to force ReadyBoost on non-compatible memory stick.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\EMDgmt, you should see few USB devices list, select one of them which represent the memory stick you want, change the “Device Status” to a value “2″. If the “ReadSpeedKBs” and “WriteSpeedKBs” is below “1000″ in hexadecimal, change to “1000″.

Unplug your USB memory stick and re-plug again, you should be able to configure your USB for ReadyBoost! This is a cheap way to do, better than nothing. However, you really need a to get a faster drive.

Method #3 – Disable unused background servicesDisables any excessive background services. Especially effective for home user who does not need many of the services; They you can free more resources for other application. Do not let unused services dominate the precious resources. Go to do some research on each service before trying anything, or you might disable some important items.

If you do these 3 methods correctly, you can cut down your boot time by half or more!

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 02, 2012

Dwell Media and Design Within Reach, two arbiters of modern design, today announce the 10 finalists from their Live/Work Design Contest, which challenges up-and-coming designers to create a new home-office solution that DWR could potentially manufacture and sell. Dwell and DWR accepted 587 entries in March, and jurors culled the list down to an impressive Top 10 which will be on view online and up for popular vote through May 21. The grand-prize winner will be announced in Los Angeles in June at Dwell on Design, the West Coast’s largest design fair.

Dwell and DWR were looking for products and furniture in the home-office space that use materials of integrity and solve productivity challenges while mixing business with pleasure. We envision the winning design to be a future live/work staple. “We’re always looking for the next future classic, the type of furniture that looks as good today as it will in twenty years,” said Dwell editor Kelsey Keith. “We combed through hundreds of designs to select ten that we feel embody the modern live/work lifestyle.”

“We are thrilled with the quality of entries from across the country and are confident that there is a classic of tomorrow among them. Along with our product development team, I look forward to getting to know the finalists and welcome the opportunity to bring one of their works to the public,” said Kari Woldum, VP of merchandising at DWR.

Starting today, Dwell will accept online votes through May 21, 2012. Live voting will occur at Wanted Design (http://2012.wanteddesignnyc.com/) in New York, May 18–21, 2012, where finalists’ entries will be on display. During the week around Dwell on Design, five finalists’ designs will be on view at DWR Beverly Boulevard Studio (http://www.dwr.com/beverlyblvd). The grand-prize winner will be unveiled on June 22, 2012, at Dwell on Design in Los Angeles.

With all of the new features of Windows Vista, there’ll be a mighty temptation for you tobuy a copy of the operating system in a store and immediately install it over your existinginstance of Windows XP, 2000, Me, or 98.Before you do, you should consider some of the following cautions:Your old PC may not be up to the challenge of running Vista. You may need substantialinvestments in additional RAM, a more capable video card, a larger harddrive, or all of the above to get adequate performance from Vista. Some of your hardware, such as printers and networking adapters, may not workat all after you install Vista–unless you update the drivers they need to versionsthat are Vista-compatible.Even if you find that one or more of your drivers needs to be updated, the vendorof your hardware may not make a Vista-compatible version available for months, years, or ever. (It’s happened before with previous versions of Windows.)We do recommend that you get Windows Vista preinstalled when you’re buying anew PC. But you may be surprised to learn that we don’t recommend that you installVista over XP or an older version of Windows. The reason is that installing Vista on top of another version of Windows may causeincompatibility problems that you might not be able to easily fix. When you buy a PCwith Vista preinstalled, it’s almost certain that the components in the PC will havebeen selected for their compatibility and will have the latest driver software. If youinstall Vista to an older machine yourself, however, you may find that your printer, networking adapter, or some other vital component no longer works because theversion you have of its driver is incompatible. In general, you shouldn’t consider installing Vista over an older version of Windowsunless the following conditions are true:* You need a feature of Vista that you can’t add to XP; or* You need an application that requires Vista; and* You can’t afford even the least expensive new PC that comes with Vista preinstalledEven if one of the above cases is true, you may be better off burning your old data toa CD, formatting the old PC’s hard drive, and doing a clean install of Vista. This avoidsthe possibility that some components of the old OS will hang around to cause conflicts. If you’ve never before backed up and formatted a hard drive, however, don’t tryto learn how on any PC that’s important to you.

Do you know that for games, there is no other PC operating system that offers as great a variety as an operating system released by Microsoft? Therefore Windows Vista from Microsoft is no exception. May be you will find some compatibility problems when operating games using Windows Vista despite promises by Microsoft for complete backward compatibility. Though you will not find any list of Windows Vista compatible games, there are ways to check if a specific game in which you are interested is compatible with Windows Vista and results to better PC Health. Officially CompatibleAlways remember that Microsoft Windows Vista is backward compatible with all other Microsoft Windows systems to Windows 95. If you are looking for a game that’s likely to run flawlessly on Windows Vista, try to look for the “Certified for Windows Vista” logo or the “Works with Windows Vista logo.” Both of them are official designations and guaranteed to work with Windows Vista. You will find that the certified logo denotes a product that was both designed and tested for Windows Vista, while the Works With logo identifies products that are Windows Vista compatible. You will see that not all games are put through these tests, so some without the logos will still work on Windows Vista. UpdatesRemember that you should always keep your drivers up to date when you are using Windows Vista. All those compatibility problems with games in Windows Vista can be fixed by installing the latest drivers or by applying the most current software patches. The very first step that you should take in dealing with any incompatibility problem is to see if you are up to date. WorkaroundsIf you want get your games to work in Windows Vista, you may have to perform a few workarounds when running them. You will find that some issues with games will be unable to run in Windows Vista stem from the operation of Windows Vista’s User Account Control (UAC) safety measure. If you need to grant permission for running software can sometimes pop up when a game is loading or operating. This can cause the game to malfunction while waiting for you to give it a permission to continue. By turning off UAC can solve this problem, but it will leave you without the safety measure in place.

If you find out that the game was designed and ran successfully in earlier Windows versions, then by running the file in compatibility mode solves many of the game’s problems with Windows Vista. The compatibility mode will run the file as though it is being operated on an earlier version of Windows, back to Windows 95.
ROGERS, Ark. (PRWEB) April 26, 2012

Link to photo of pro leader EverStart pro Randall Tharp

A full field of the best bass-fishing professionals from all across the United States, Canada, Spain and Japan opened the Walmart FLW Tour Major on Beaver Lake presented by Straight Talk on Thursday. Anglers used a variety of strategies and tactics beneath the sunny Arkansas skies as they began the competition for a top cash award of up to $ 125,000.

Despite the multiple techniques the professionals employed, the results were very similar – just 2 pounds, 3 ounces separated first place from 10th. At the end of the day, EverStart pro Randall Tharp of Gardendale, Ala., held the day one tournament lead with a five-bass limit weighing 15 pounds, 7 ounces. Tharp has a 12-ounce lead over Snapple pro Jacob Powroznik of Prince George, Va., who caught five bass weighing 14-11.

“I’m pretty pleased with my weight today,” said Tharp, who has career winnings of more than $ 640,000. “But I believe I can catch more fish tomorrow, especially if the wind is blowing. I don’t think anyone else is doing what I’m doing. I’m fishing a certain bait on certain banks and it’s real unique.”

Tharp said he fished areas that he had not targeted in practice. Although he chose to start his day near areas where he had found fish during practice, most of his fish came from areas that he had not fished before.

“I had a real good practice coming into this tournament,” Tharp continued. “I’m known for practicing from daylight to dark, but for this event I was finishing up around 4 p.m. That was mostly because I did not want people to see where I was fishing. I made sure that I was real cautious today as well – I tried not to stay in one spot for too long.

“I caught four today very early – within the first 15 minutes. I had a limit by 8:15 a.m.,” Tharp went on to say. “I ran pretty far up the river and I caught some up there, and I caught some in the clear water down in the lake. The lake is really unique right now due to the water conditions and the (water) level being down. Several of the bass that I weighed in today were pre-spawn, I saw two spawners and there were quite a few post-spawn fish as well. All five of my bass were largemouth today.”

Despite the odd conditions, Tharp is still extremely confident about the remainder of his tournament.

“Beaver Lake is a real tough lake, but that’s when I seem to do my best. I believe that there is a bigger bag out there. I’m pretty confident in my pattern, and believe I’m going to be fishing all four days this week. I’m more confident right now than I was earlier this year when I won at Okeechobee.”

Rounding out the top 10 pros after day one on Beaver Lake are:

3rd: Dr Pepper TEN pro Glenn Browne, Ocala, Fla., five bass, 14-8

4th: STP® pro Stetson Blaylock, Benton, Ark., five bass, 14-6

5th: Straight Talk pro Scott Canterbury, Springville, Ala., five bass, 14-5

5th: Christian Romans, Carrollton, Ky., five bass, 14-5

7th: Chevy pro Jay Yelas, Corvallis, Ore., five bass, 14-3

8th: Chevy pro Bryan Thrift, Shelby, N.C., five bass, 13-12

9th: Chevy pro Luke Clausen, Spokane, Wash., five bass, 13-9

Kettle Brand Chips pro Dan Morehead of Paducah, Ky., had his day one weight zeroed after inadvertently fishing in an area designated as off-limits for competition.

Pros are competing for a top award of up to $ 125,000 this week plus valuable points in the hope of qualifying for the 2012 Forrest Wood Cup presented by Walmart, the world championship of bass fishing. The top 35 anglers in the point standings from the six Walmart FLW Tour Major tournaments will qualify.
