When looking for an Ares download, you’ll find that there are a multitude of different applications based off the popular Ares network. It makes sense – Ares boasts one of the largest peer-to-peer file sharing communities in existence today. The problem is, it’s sometimes hard to figure out which program allows you to access the network with the most ease and security.

Three of the most discussed Ares downloads, for good or bad, are Ares Galaxy, Ares Destiny, Ares Lite and Ares Vista. All three of these applications present a professional site, and there are some similarities in what they offer their users. Of course, everyone will have their own opinion about the ease of use, and benefits that each program provides. Still, there are a few well-known facts about each application that could help new users in making their final decision.

The Choices

Ares Galaxy: There are many conflicting reviews of this application online, and for good reason. Ares Galaxy was once a powerful program that was very effective at providing a good user experience. However, the application was abandoned by its programmers and quickly lost its relevance.

New users can spend hours trying to gain access to the network, only to find that it’s impossible. Glitches are becoming more common, and there is no support to deal with the issues. For instance, when Windows Vista was released, a major problem arose when the program conflicted with Windows new security settings. To combat this problem, users must either drop the new security features (features which protect them from Trojans and viruses), or drop Ares Galaxy. While once a good program, it’s now riddled with too many issues for most users.

Ares Lite: Ares Lite was created as a stripped down version of Ares Galaxy. Free from adware or malware, the name gave a slight edge to the application when it was initially released. People automatically assumed that ‘Lite’ meant it was the only version free from malware (which is not the case at all). While a decent app for those who have small file sharing needs, the program has struggled to compete against the more recent and robust versions that also use the Ares network. There have been many reports of long lag times to get connected and lengthening download times since users are abandoning the application.

Ares Destiny: A slick looking application that does what it says it will do; deliver an effective file sharing experience Unfortunately, it’s what it doesn’t tell you that will agitate you the most. The application comes hidden with a nasty piece of malware, which, among other things, causes incessant pop up ads on your computer and monitors your computer usage. A solid program on its own, but bundled with the malware (called Dealio), it makes for an annoying and intrusive experience.

Ares Vista: This program offers the most recent version of the Ares network available. Actively supported by its developers, and guaranteed to be free of any adware or malware, the program is robust, and offers one of the fastest download speeds available. The interface is very user friendly (as are most Ares versions), and the selection of downloads is simply staggering. Of course it’s not perfect, but issues are quickly addressed and, for the most part, users have been extremely satisfied with the speed, selection and security the program provides.

With so many opinions floating around, it’s good to get some basic facts about each application to help with your decision. It ensures your ultimate choice on which Ares download you choose, will be an educated one, rather than just a shot in the dark.

Unlike Limewire, Bittorrent, or Napster, Ares was developed as an open-source application, so there are no corporate owners for the RIAA to target, and development of the system has not been halted with legal problems. Ares is easy to use, quick to connect, with very fast download speeds. Because Ares is the most popular file sharing program, you find a lot better music selection, and more people to connect and share with. There are over 100 million titles available to download on the network.
Ares is the best choice for most filesharing needs, particularily for music files. For sharing of very large files such as movies, the Bittorrent protocol is better. While Ares does support the Bittorent protocol, it is not designed specifically for that purpose. Links to the most popular programs that use the bittorrent client are below.

* Limewire   * Suprnova
Some other popular filesharing programs are listed below. Check back later as we are finishing reviews of these,and the bittorrent clients listed to the left.
